About a guy...???????????????

In elementary school i made friends with this guy. we really got along and talked for hours. one day, though, i found out he had a crush on me, and it got very akward because i didn't see him like that. then his friend told my friend that if she got me to say yes to my ffriend who had a crush on me he'd go out with her. stuff like that happened and it got all messed up. then, like the elementary school kid i was, i said "no" by making my friend give him a bracelet that said "no" on it. he got really upset and i understand that geez i know! and he wouldn't talk to me again. now we're in high school and we haven't talked for years but i'm thinking back on old times. we were such great friends and that stupid elemetary situation messed it all up. i wish we could just laugh about it but now it's been years. would it be appropriate, even though i've never talked to him in 5 years, to talk to him again? for old times sake? if yes how would i go about doing that? if you were him today what would you think of me? if you think i shouldn't tell me why and etc? thanks :-D
