How do I get past ch1 in Hotel Dusk Room 215 on the Nintendo DS?

I have spoken to the hotel boss and the kid on the stairs and the guy in the hallway and in a room, but don't seem to be progressing. I can't open the suitcase yet and am collcting the numbers for the vending machine. I have not been thrown out, but knock on every door, check every corner and cant find anything. Also how do I get the paperclip off the hotel brochure?? Pleas help as I am going to sell this game as it is driving me nuts!!
