Meiosis question. help! test tomorrow?

During telophase1 when the cells are divided into two separate cells, do the cells result in two diploid cells, or two haploid cells? My biology teacher wrote that during telophase1, it results in two haploid cells, but it doesn't really make sense why they're haploid.
