Why do people use reverse discrimination?

It's a hypocritical and equally as prejudice. Everyone is an individual and shouldn't be grouped by religion, race, gender, etc. Affirmative action is an example of this. Some companies will hire women and minorities more likely than a white male. I'm a teenage girl (who's a "minority") and I think everyone should truly be treated equally. In the media they sometimes put down men and give women praise. There are smart and stupid men and women everywhere. There is prejudice against men just as much as women. Why can't society just recognize people for their own unique talents and personality? For example, women can be soldiers, stay at home moms, scientists, directors, etc. it just depends on skill and who you are :)
